The Plymouth County Mosquito Control Project announced on March 27 that an aerial pesticide application is planned between March 30 and April 4 to target large wetland areas in Middleborough and Rochester. The applications will take place from 5:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.
This effort aims to reduce larval mosquito populations in local wetlands, which can help prevent the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses. The announcement specifies that no pesticides will be applied over residential areas during this period.
According to the memorandum, approximately 2,900 acres in Middleborough and 700 acres in Rochester are included in the treatment area. The pesticide product being used is Vectobac12AS (EPA Registration #73049-38), which will be dispersed by a red and white Cessna Ag-Wagon aircraft operated by the Plymouth County Mosquito Control Project.
Residents seeking more information about the aerial application or with questions regarding safety can contact the project at (781) 585-5450 or visit www.plymouthmosquito.org.
The project said that all activities are subject to weather conditions, and adjustments may be made if necessary.
