FOIA Request to Bridgewater State University regarding Chinese National students on June 16, 2025.

The Plymouth Reporter has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Bridgewater State University seeking records related to Chinese National students. The request, sent under the Massachusetts Public Records Act § 66-10 et seq., asks for specific data concerning the enrollment and scholarship details of these students.

The request seeks documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If student names are protected, the university is asked to provide a total count of such students and break it down by department. Additionally, information on scholarships awarded to these students is requested, including the amount and source of each scholarship. Specific attention is given to scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, the request includes a call for any policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, in order to protect intellectual property and other confidential information.

This FOIA request is made on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, which assists media organizations in investigating governmental agencies through transparency laws. As part of this effort, the requester has sought a fee waiver citing their role as a media professional committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency.

Our team will continue to keep you updated as we gather and report news related to this request and other matters of public interest. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification regarding this matter.
