The Town of Halifax announced on April 16 that it will host a series of Override 101 Public Forum sessions to inform residents about the proposed Proposition 2 ½ override. The override will be presented at the annual Town Meeting scheduled for Monday, May 11, and placed on the annual Town Election ballot on Saturday, May 16.
The forums aim to help residents understand why an override is being considered and how it would affect municipal finances. These sessions are designed to provide clear information about financial constraints under Proposition 2 ½ and explain how additional funding could impact local services.
Each session will cover topics such as what a Proposition 2 ½ override is, differences from other ballot questions, the town’s revenue limitations and cost drivers, intended uses for potential override funds, implications for average households, and key dates leading up to the vote. Residents will have opportunities to ask questions during a dedicated question-and-answer period at each forum.
The first session is set for Thursday, April 16 at 6:30 pm in the Great Hall at Town Hall. Additional sessions are planned for Saturday, April 18 at Town Hall; Monday, April 27 at Holmes Public Library; Thursday, April 30 at Halifax Mobile Home Estates; and Tuesday, May 5 back at Town Hall. All meetings offer remote participation via Zoom and recordings will be posted online with presentation materials available after the initial forum.
For more information or specific questions regarding the forums or proposed override measure, residents can contact Steven Solbo in the Board of Selectmen’s office by email or phone. Updates about future sessions or changes will be provided through official town channels.
