Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, who represents Massachusetts’ 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media in early February 2026 addressing Black History Month, his opposition to a federal funding bill, and concerns about financial regulatory enforcement under the Trump Administration.

On February 2, Lynch marked Black History Month by stating, “This month, we acknowledge the long struggle and celebrate the hard-earned victories in the course of Black History in our nation. As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s words frequently remind us, the work continues for all of us.”

The following day, on February 3, he announced his stance against a forthcoming funding bill for federal agencies responsible for immigration enforcement: “I will be voting NO on the upcoming funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security and ICE. This is a break-the-glass moment; we cannot continue to enable this type of behavior by the Trump Administration.”

On February 5, Lynch raised concerns regarding regulatory oversight after President Trump took office: “In the first two months after Trump took office, the Securities & Exchange Commission and other financial regulatory agencies dismissed more than 100 crypto- and finance-related enforcement cases – allowing finance and crypto companies to defraud American investors and consumers”.

Lynch has represented Massachusetts’s 8th District since 2001 after succeeding Joe Moakley. He previously served in both chambers of the Massachusetts legislature between 1995 and 2001. Born in Boston in 1955 and currently residing there at age 68, Lynch holds degrees from Wentworth Institute of Technology (BS) and Boston College (JD).
