Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, who represents Massachusetts’ 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on his official social media account addressing national security, community engagement, and support for first responders.

On March 23, 2026, Lynch questioned the rationale behind ongoing U.S. military spending in the Middle East by stating: “There has been no clear evidence from the intelligence community that Iran presented an imminent threat to the United States. The Trump Administration is spending roughly $1 billion dollars a day on this conflict, funding which could have been used here at home.”

The following day, March 24, he announced an opportunity for local students: “My office is accepting submissions for the 2026 Congressional Art Competition! Interested high school students in the Eighth Congressional District of Massachusetts should review the requirements and submit their artwork by April 24th. Visit my website here for more information”.

Later that same day, Lynch highlighted his participation in a meeting focused on public safety: “I was honored to join my friend and colleague @RepMcGovern to co-host a gathering of 57 members of the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts in Washington. We discussed the importance of funding for fire stations and the critical health and safety of our firefighters and”.

Lynch has represented Massachusetts’s 8th District since 2001 after succeeding Joe Moakley. He previously served in both chambers of the Massachusetts legislature before entering Congress (source: FACTS FOR STEP 4). Born in Boston in 1955, Lynch holds degrees from Wentworth Institute of Technology and Boston College.
