Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, a U.S. Congressman representing Massachusetts’ 8th district since 2001, posted a series of tweets on July 21 and July 22 addressing recent political developments and community engagement.
On July 21, Lynch criticized the Trump administration’s handling of federal employment, stating, “Since January, President Trump has laid off thousands of hardworking federal employees, including those from the Department of Education and the Department of State. President Trump’s mismanagement of the Executive Branch is unacceptable and harmful to the American people.”
The following day, he shared an update about his meeting with local students: “It was great to welcome the John William Ward Public Service Fellows to the Capitol today. These @BostLatinSchool students are deeply committed to public service and have spent their summer making a meaningful impact in our community. We had a great conversation about current” (July 22).
Later that same day, Lynch addressed House Republican actions regarding legislative transparency: “House Republicans are shutting down the House until September to block a vote on releasing the Epstein Files. They would rather protect President Trump than give the American people the truth.” (July 22).
Lynch’s statements come amid ongoing debates in Congress over government transparency and executive branch management. He has served as Massachusetts’s 8th District representative since replacing Joe Moakley in 2001 and previously held positions in both chambers of the Massachusetts legislature from 1995 through 2001. Born in Boston in 1955, Lynch graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology and later earned a law degree from Boston College.
