Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, who represents Massachusetts’ 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on social media regarding ongoing efforts to prevent a government shutdown and maintain funding for critical healthcare programs.
On September 30, 2025, Lynch stated, “While House Republican leadership has cancelled votes, I am here in Washington with my fellow @HouseDemocrats to do everything possible to prevent a government shutdown and fight against cuts to health care, Medicaid, and other critical programs.”
Later that day, he reiterated his commitment by posting, “In Washington, I will always fight for you and work to fund critical healthcare programs that affect every single American.”

Lynch has served as the representative for Massachusetts’s 8th District since 2001 after succeeding Joe Moakley. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1995 to 1996 and served in the Massachusetts Senate from 1996 to 2001. Born in Boston in 1955 and currently residing there at age 68, Lynch graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a BS in 1988 and earned his JD from Boston College in 1991.
