Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, who represents Massachusetts’ 8th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used his social media platform to voice concerns over proposed cryptocurrency legislation and to participate in Anti-Crypto Corruption Week alongside fellow members of the House Financial Services Committee.
On July 16, 2025, Lynch posted: “I am proud to join my colleagues @USHouseFSC in Anti-Crypto Corruption Week. Please join our livestream here – https://t.co/TSmxWsl5ll. https://t.co/p74GR3FVGX”
A day later, on July 17, 2025, he criticized a legislative proposal known as the CLARITY Act: “The CLARITY Act aka the CALAMITY Act:
Is a handout to Trump and his family
Increases investor harm
Endangers our national security

In another post that same day, Lynch commented on another bill referred to as the “Genius Act”: “The so-called ‘Genius Act’ allows Trump to sell access to foreign governments, allows big tech to issue private digital currencies, and devalues the U.S. dollar.
Nothing in this bill prevents a taxpayer bailout when the crypto industry inevitably fails.
Congress must https://t.co/7Lln6O3jEO“
Lynch’s public opposition reflects ongoing debates within Congress about how best to regulate digital assets and address concerns over transparency and financial stability.
Serving since 2001 as representative for Massachusetts’s 8th District, Lynch succeeded Joe Moakley and previously held seats in both the Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate. Born in Boston in 1955, Lynch holds degrees from Wentworth Institute of Technology (BS) and Boston College (JD), highlighting his longstanding involvement in public service and policy discussions regarding emerging technologies.
