Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, U.S. Congressman representing Massachusetts’ 8th district since 2001, has recently addressed several issues related to veterans’ affairs and Social Security in a series of posts on his official social media account.
On August 13, 2025, Lynch criticized the Trump Administration’s decision regarding VA employees: “In another blatant example of this Administration defying the rule of law, the Trump Administration decided to strip collective bargaining rights from our dedicated employees at the VA. Last week, I sent a letter to the Administration in strong opposition to this decision.”
The following day, August 14, he highlighted the importance of Social Security for his constituents: “There are 138,053 #SocialSecurity recipients in the Eighth Congressional District of Massachusetts! Today marks the 90th Anniversary of President Franklin D. Roosevelt signing Social Security into law, which provides tens of millions of working Americans an earned, guaranteed”

Lynch has represented Massachusetts’s 8th District since succeeding Joe Moakley in Congress more than two decades ago. Before serving at the federal level, he was a member of both chambers of the Massachusetts legislature between 1995 and 2001. Born in Boston in 1955 and currently residing there, Lynch holds degrees from Wentworth Institute of Technology (BS) and Boston College (JD).
