Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Massachusetts’ 8th district since 2001, has recently taken to social media to discuss his ongoing efforts in the House Litigation Working Group. Lynch, who succeeded Joe Moakley and has an extensive background in state politics, expressed his commitment to opposing actions by the Trump Administration.
On May 8, 2025, Rep. Lynch posted on social media stating, “As a member of the House Litigation Working group, I will continue to work alongside my Democratic colleagues to fight against the Trump Administration’s unlawful actions and keep my constituents updated.” He also extended gratitude towards Rep. Joe Neguse for his leadership on these issues.
Later that day, he provided an update regarding a legal victory involving Rümeysa Öztürk, a Tufts graduate student. On May 8, 2025, he wrote: “As a member of the Democratic Congressional Litigation Working Group, I am greatly encouraged that a federal appellate court has ordered the transfer of Rümeysa Öztürk – a Tufts graduate student who was unconstitutionally detained and abducted off the street for co-authoring an article.”
Following this development, on May 10, 2025, Rep. Lynch expressed relief over Öztürk’s release from ICE custody: “Extremely happy to see that Tufts University Fulbright Scholar, Rümeysa Öztürk has been freed from ICE custody. While her unlawful abduction and detention was a Gestapo-like abuse of power…” He noted that it took considerable time for judicial intervention but found satisfaction in her eventual release.
