U.S. Representative Stephen F. Lynch, who has represented Massachusetts’ 8th district in Congress since 2001, shared a series of posts celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and reflecting on local history.
On March 16, Lynch described recent festivities: “We had an entertaining breakfast hosted by Senator Nick Collins and a huge St. Patrick’s Day parade – probably our biggest ever – led by Colonel Tim Murphy. Proud to march with the United States Marine Corps Paris Island band – sincere thanks to Randy Greeley, Brian Yannovich,” he wrote.
The following day, March 17, Lynch highlighted the Irish heritage of his district: “Our 8th Congressional District in Massachusetts is among the most Irish in America – so today ‘everyone is Irish’ as we celebrate the contributions of the Irish diaspora to the richness of our American experience. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! “
On March 18, Lynch referenced a significant historical anniversary: “250 years ago today our ancestors, who were farmers, laborers, shopkeepers, merchants and dockworkers threw out the shackles of rules by the divine right of Kings and drove the imperial fleet from Boston Harbor. Aided by the intrepid artillery officer Henry Knox who dragged 60”
Lynch has served as U.S. Representative for Massachusetts’ 8th District since replacing Joe Moakley in 2001 and previously held seats in both chambers of the Massachusetts legislature. He was born in Boston in 1955 and continues to reside there. Lynch graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a BS in 1988 and earned a JD from Boston College in 1991.
