Stephen F. Lynch, a U.S. Congressman representing Massachusetts’ 8th district since 2001, has shared several updates on recent events and legislative matters via social media. Lynch, who succeeded Joe Moakley in Congress, is known for his active participation in legislative discussions and his commitment to the constituents of his district.
On May 21, 2025, Lynch expressed his sorrow over the passing of Congressman Gerry Connolly. In a heartfelt message, he described Connolly as “a true Statesman” who was dedicated to addressing both the immediate needs of families in his district and the broader challenges faced by society. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend and colleague Congressman Gerry Connolly.”
The following day, on May 22, 2025, Lynch reported working late into the night in Washington D.C., as House Republicans attempted to pass what he described as an “extreme and harmful budget bill.” He criticized the bill for cutting essential programs that benefit millions of Americans across various demographics. “Another late night here in Washington, D.C. with House Republicans trying to pass an extreme and harmful budget bill…”
Later that morning, Lynch confirmed his opposition to the budget proposal by voting against it. He referred to it as the “Big Ugly Bill” and reiterated his commitment alongside fellow Democrats to continue advocating for American citizens’ interests. “I just voted NO on Republicans’ budget bill—the ‘Big Ugly Bill’. My Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate will never stop fighting on behalf of the American people.”
Lynch’s long-standing service includes prior roles in both the Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate before joining Congress. A Boston native born in 1955, he holds degrees from Wentworth Institute of Technology and Boston College.
