The Halifax Water Department will start flushing water mains on or about Monday, Monday, April 25th and will take approximately two weeks, weather permitting. The first week will cover south and west of Route 58. The second week will cover north and east.
The mains will be flushed between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and midnight Monday through Thursday. The work will continue until the entire system is flushed. Water users should check the water for discoloration before using it to wash light colored clothing. If possible, avoid using water during flushing in your area, to prevent discolored water from entering your home.
The discolored water is safe for human consumption as it is caused by harmless sediment that has been stirred up from the bottom of the mains. The discoloration will clear up in a short period of time.
We apologize for any inconvenience the flushing may cause, but it must be done to maintain the quality of our water.
You can contact the Water Department with any questions by calling (781) 293-1733 or e-mailing Kathleen.ONeil@halifax-ma.org.
