The ratio of students to teachers in Brockton Public Schools District fell by 12.2% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 15,265 students being taught by 1,112.5 teachers in Brockton Public Schools District, which covers schools within Plymouth County and has a main office in Brockton. That's an average of 13.7 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Brockton Public Schools District had 15,384 students and 986.2 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.
