The ratio of students to teachers in Norwell Public Schools District fell by 2.2% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 2,186 students being taught by 164.5 teachers in Norwell Public Schools District, which covers schools within Plymouth County and has a main office in Norwell. That's an average of 13.3 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Norwell Public Schools District had 2,182 students and 160.8 teachers on staff.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.
